breakbeatscientist I had criminally only ever owned one Break The Limits EP so it was an absolute must to grab this album to see what I had missed. "The Complete Break The Limits" focusses mainly on the pre-1992 era of warehouse rave with a heavy dose of stripped back bleeps & bass tracks featured. revisiting "I-So-Metric" from "Part III" has been a joy. Forward thinking music from the early days of rave, breaks and bass. Favorite track: I So Metric.

about

Break The Limits meant different things to different people and i Bay B Kane wanted to know so i asked a few people & heres what they had to say in their own words...

This is what Justice of Modern Urban Jazz had to say...

"I can remember clearly Nectarine playing through the speaker of my radio being broadcast by the local pirate station and thinking that this is the sound of the future. The juxtaposition of the beat and the acid like synth line was so fresh and was really pushing the envelope for that time. I guess it was one of the early pre-cursors of what developed into drum and bass and it was certainly influential in the forming of my sound and the scene as a whole. Its one of the 12's that I still hold in great esteem and am instatntly transported back when I listen to it."

This is what Dj Trax of Mixrace - Moving Shadow had to say...

"Break the limits was one of the early pioneering labels in the emerging scene. It joined the dots between Hip Hop and hardcore.
Coming from that same stance meant that BTL was right up my street.Pure BBoy business!
I So Metric and E-Yeah were personal favourites. Good to see reissues coming to help spread the music to the next generation, big up to Bay B Kane"

This is what Daz Breakz of Boomsha Recordings had to say...

When I was asked to write a few words on what BTL meant to me I was honoured to give a small commentary on such a revered collection of music and thought I would find it easy to convey my feelings but I was wrong! How do you put into words the impact this music had on myself and others of a certain age, how we felt when we first heard tracks like Nectarine, Energy Flow, Hypnotizer, Paranoize played on Fantasy FM or in our favourite local rave haunts like the Dungeons. BTL sounded so different from everything else, the music had a certain rawness that was obviously a product of what was going on in the underground scene but for me it defined what was going on around me, the clubs/raves I went to at that time. The BTL releases were everything I wanted to hear without even knowing I wanted to hear it! For me on a personal level, BTL was the sound of London underground.
As a youth I was blown away by the emerging electro and hip hop sounds and then acid house and rave and of course no one track or producer[s] can be cited as being responsible for a certain scene but the music that BTL made blew me away in the exact same way. It really was like I was hearing something that was the cusp of another era of underground music. It was a fusion of styles , it couldn’t be pigeonholed as house music, techno or anything else. It was something else, something very distinctive. A BTL track would stand out in any dj’s set that you might be listening to, Hypnotizer is a prime example, a DJ would drop it in his set and it would sound like nothing else that had been played in the set whilst at the same time it sat perfectly in with the accompanying tunes but it took you to a whole other level. A different state of musical consciousness.
To this day I am still hypnotised by the music of BTL, just as I was back then hearing it for the first time and that’s a pretty big thing in my book. Sure I get a feeling of nostalgia when listening to other stuff from back in the day but when I put a BTL track on its more than just nostalgia. It’s a total recall of everything that music meant to me!
